Governor announces Missouri tourism destinations program
July 16, 2020
Gov. Mike Parson today announced $15 million in CARES Act funds will be designated for destination marketing organizations (DMOs) in response to the COVID-19 health emergency.
The Show Me Strong Destination Marketing Organization program will be administered by the Department of Economic Development’s Division of Tourism and will, among other things, allow eligible DMOs to apply for reimbursement of certain costs, to include marketing campaigns focused on the resumption of activities and the implementation of safety protocols.
DMOs may also be eligible to apply for support related to unanticipated payroll expenses incurred directly as a result of the COVID-19 health emergency, and for costs associated with facility improvements and supply purchases directly related to the COVID-19 health emergency.
Unanticipated expenses related to enhanced safety/screening measures at events or event facilities may also be reimbursed through the grant program.
Eligible DMOs must have participated in the Division’s Cooperative Marketing program during the state’s FY19 or FY20, or both, and must meet program guidelines.
The Division of Tourism will notify eligible DMOs of their ability to participate in the program. Guidelines and applications will be posted in the coming days on the Division of Tourism’s program page at Industry.VisitMO.com.
